I've been contacted over the past week by clients that use IE (Internet Explorer) asking why their blog is acting up. If you check out Known Issue for Blogger, they report problems with IE. Problems that are still unresolved. I know some people have removed or moved their followers and the issues have gone away, but others are still having (sporadic) issues.
I just came across this post that shares one's opinion on IE. I actually thing that more than one person has this opinion. I sure do!
I am not taking any new clients at this time. Repeat clients may contact me for updates. Please note that updates are not free!!
If you are looking for a new design, I suggest you check out Etsy. There are 100s of affordable customized designs. Most offer installation for a nominal charge.
Blogging Advice
Today I got an email from one of my online buddies saying that a friend of hers lost her blog. I wasn't sure what that meant but when I check out the blog I saw that the design and sidebar info on her blog was gone. The posts were there, but everything else was gone. I know this person is crushed because she had their adoption trip to China documented in their sidebar as well as a lot of other stuff. Unfortunately I was not able to help restore her blog, but I can give some advice to all of you now.
Back up your blog!! How is that done? I know it might be done differently based on what browser you use, but this is what I do for my blogger blogs. I bring my blog up and click on one of the months in the sidebar archive, so all my posts for that particular month show in the blog (if you don't blog much you could also do a year archive at a time.) Then I right click on my mouse (or ctrl-S) to Save Page As. Then the Save As pages comes up, pick where you want it saved, then click save. It will be called something like 2008_07_01_archive.html. What is saved is a folder called 2008_07_01_archive_files (filled with all the graphics from the blog) and the actual page called 2008_07_01_archive.html. When you click to open that file, your blog opens on in your browser. Store those folders/files in a safe place like an external hard drive or burn to a CD.
Also~ Blogger has made some changes this week. Blogger functions the same, but they have changed the look of the sidebar page elements (gadgets) and dashboard. You can read about it here: http://buzz.blogger.com/ I am guessing that they will continue to change the look of other parts of dashboard soon. Don't be startled~ everything seems to work the same.
